12th Class is the final year of the Intermediate or Higher Secondary stage for students following Pakistan’s board education system. You will also see it called 2nd Year, HSSC Part II or HSSC-II, depending on the board and the information you are checking.

What Is 12th Class Called in Pakistan?

The most common student term is 12th Class or 2nd Year.

Examination boards often use the formal term Higher Secondary School Certificate Part II, shortened to HSSC Part II or HSSC-II.

These terms normally refer to the final year of the two-year Intermediate/Higher Secondary stage after Matric or another recognized SSC-level qualification.

So when you see:

HSSC Part II

they generally point to the same stage of Pakistan’s board-based Intermediate education.

The exact terminology can still differ between institutions, so the wording used by your examination board should take priority.

Which Students Come Under 12th Class?

12th Class is not limited to one subject group.

Students may be enrolled in different Intermediate programs or groups according to the scheme offered by their board and college.

Names and subject combinations can differ from one board to another. Students should therefore follow the scheme of studies issued by their own examination board or institution instead of assuming that every board offers exactly the same combination.

Which Boards Conduct 12th Class Exams?

12th Class examinations are conducted by the examination board with which the student is registered.

Pakistan has multiple examination boards rather than one national board for every student. These include the Federal Board and provincial or regional Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education, along with other recognized examination bodies.

For this reason, two 12th Class students in different parts of Pakistan may have different:

Your roll number slip contains examination details that apply specifically to you.

12th Class Admissions and Examination Forms

Admission in this context may mean registration or submission of an examination admission form rather than admission to a university.

Examination boards normally publish their own schedules for:

normal-fee applications,
late applications,
double or triple-fee stages where applicable,
regular candidates, and
private candidates.

Dates and fees change between examination cycles. A deadline from a previous year should never be treated as the current deadline.

Is 12th Class the Same as A Levels?

Not exactly.

A Levels belong to a different examination system. They may qualify for equivalence with Pakistan’s Higher Secondary School Certificate when the applicable IBCC requirements are met, but this does not make A Levels the same examination as a Pakistani board’s 12th Class.

Students studying under Cambridge or another foreign qualification system should follow their own examination body’s schedule and IBCC equivalence rules where needed.

What Comes After 12th Class?

After completing HSSC or another recognized equivalent qualification, students normally move toward higher education or other post-HSSC routes according to their subject background and eligibility.

The next step depends heavily on the student’s group.

A Pre-Medical student, a Pre-Engineering student, a Computer Science student and a Humanities or Commerce student may all have different university or professional options.

For university admission, always check the eligibility rules of the institution and degree program you want to join. Passing 12th Class alone does not automatically make a student eligible for every program.
