LAT Test, Results, Admissions & Roll Number Slip Updates

The Law Admission Test, commonly called LAT, is the admission test used for students who want to enter an LLB programme in Pakistan. It is conducted through the Education Testing Council of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

Under HEC’s current LLB curriculum, a student seeking admission to the LLB programme must have an HSSC, A-level or IBCC-equivalent qualification with at least 45% marks. A minimum score of 50% in the Law Admission Test is also mandatory.

For students following the 2026 cycle, the latest LAT was held on 6 September 2026. HEC has published the answer keys for this test. According to the official ETC 2026 test calendar, its result is scheduled for 16 October 2026.

What Is the LAT Test?

LAT stands for Law Admission Test. It is designed for students seeking admission to an LLB programme.

Students sometimes confuse LAT with LAW-GAT, but the two tests serve different purposes. LAT is connected with entry into law education. LAW-GAT is a separate assessment for law graduates and should not be treated as another name for LAT.

The current HEC LLB curriculum describes the Bachelor of Laws programme as a minimum four-year programme consisting of eight regular semesters. Students should therefore be careful with older websites that still describe every LLB programme as five years.

Who Is Eligible for LLB Admission Through LAT?

HEC’s current LLB curriculum sets two important minimum requirements.

A candidate should hold a Higher Secondary School Certificate, A-levels involving 12 years of schooling, or an IBCC-equivalent qualification with at least 45% marks.

The candidate must also obtain at least 50% in the HEC Law Admission Test.

These are baseline HEC requirements. A university may have its own admission procedure, merit calculation, application deadline or additional conditions. Passing LAT therefore does not automatically mean that a candidate has secured admission to a particular university.

HEC LAT Paper Pattern

The official HEC LAT content-weightage document divides the examination into an objective section and a descriptive section.

Part I contains 75 multiple-choice questions. HEC’s published content weightages allow 100 minutes for this portion.

Part II contains the essay and personal statement and has 40 minutes allocated to it. The essay may be written in English or Urdu, and the personal statement may also be attempted in English or Urdu according to the official content-weightage document.

What Are the Passing Marks for LAT?

The required LAT score for admission under the current HEC LLB curriculum is 50%.

Because the paper carries 100 marks, this means a student needs at least 50 marks out of 100 to meet the LAT requirement stated in the curriculum.

Students should remember that this is the LAT requirement. Admission to a university can still depend on its merit list and other applicable admission conditions.

LAT 2026 Test Schedule

HEC’s Education Testing Council published five LAT cycles in its 2026 test calendar.

As of 20 September 2026, the 6 September test has been conducted and its answer keys are available through HEC. Its scheduled result date is 16 October 2026.

The next LAT test in the published calendar is scheduled for 15 November 2026. Its announcement is scheduled for 4 October, followed by a registration deadline of 20 October.

Candidates should recheck the ETC portal before acting because HEC may publish updates or changes to a scheduled test.

How to Register for HEC LAT

LAT applications are handled through the HEC Education Testing Council portal at etc.hec.gov.pk.

The normal process is to open the ETC portal, sign in to your ETC profile, check the tests currently available on the dashboard and follow the application instructions shown for the active LAT cycle.

HEC’s ETC FAQ explains that available tests appear through the candidate’s ETC profile. Candidates should rely on the active portal and current HEC advertisement rather than old screenshots or registration instructions copied from an earlier LAT cycle.

If LAT is not currently visible as an active test, check the official test calendar and ETC announcements. A registration link may not remain open throughout the year.

How to Get the LAT Roll Number Slip

HEC’s annual test calendar gives a separate roll number slip issue date for each LAT cycle.

For example, the roll number slip for the 15 November 2026 LAT is scheduled for 6 November 2026.

Candidates should use their ETC account and follow the current instructions issued for that test. Do not rely on an old roll number slip from another LAT sitting.

How to Check LAT Answer Keys and Results

HEC publishes LAT answer keys through its Education Testing Council and HEC announcement pages.

For the LAT conducted on 6 September 2026, HEC has already uploaded separate answer keys for different paper colours.

Candidates waiting for the final result should distinguish an answer key from the actual result. An answer key can help you compare responses, but it is not your official final LAT result.

The scheduled result date for the 6 September test is 16 October 2026 according to the ETC annual calendar.

LAT and LAW-GAT Are Different Tests

The similar names cause a lot of confusion.

LAT is the Law Admission Test connected with admission to an LLB programme.

LAW-GAT, or Law Graduate Assessment Test, is meant for law graduates at a later stage. A student searching for LLB admission information should therefore follow LAT notices rather than LAW-GAT dates, results or roll number slips.

This difference also matters when checking HEC’s test calendar because LAT and LAW-GAT appear as separate examination categories.

Where Should Students Verify LAT Updates?

For registration, use the HEC Education Testing Council portal.

For schedules, answer keys, announcements and other test information, use the HEC or ETC website. This is safer than relying on an old social-media post or a preparation website because test dates and registration periods can change.
