BA Results, Date Sheets, Admissions & Roll Number Slips 2026
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
If you are searching for BA in Pakistan, the first thing to understand is that the education system has changed. The conventional two-year Bachelor of Arts program that students traditionally called BA has been phased out by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Its replacement is the Associate Degree, and the arts stream is commonly known as Associate Degree in Arts or ADA. HEC describes the Associate Degree as a two-year program that replaced the old BA/BSc degrees.
You may still see the word BA on university websites, old result pages, examination records and student searches. That does not always mean an institution is offering the old conventional BA. In many cases, BA is being used as a familiar name alongside the newer Associate Degree terminology.
Does BA Still Exist in Pakistan?
The old conventional two-year BA is no longer the standard program for fresh admissions.
HEC formally moved universities and affiliated colleges away from the old BA/BSc structure and toward Associate Degree programs. In June 2024, HEC again warned students and parents against taking admission in phased-out two-year BA/BSc programs.
This means a student completing Intermediate, FA, FSc or another equivalent qualification should not simply look for an old-style BA admission.
Instead, check whether the university offers:
Associate Degree in Arts, Associate Degree in another subject, or a four-year BS program.
The correct option depends on the institution and the subject you want to study.
What Replaced the Two-Year BA?
For arts students, the closest modern replacement is generally the Associate Degree in Arts.
HEC introduced the Associate Degree framework as the replacement for conventional two-year BA and BSc programs. The qualification is designed as a two-year post-HSSC program.
The exact subjects, credit hours and examination system can differ between universities.
For example, Allama Iqbal Open University currently offers a program titled Associate Degree in Arts (BA). AIOU lists its duration as two years, uses Open Distance Learning, and requires an HSSC pass certificate for admission.
This is a good example of why students still encounter the term BA even though the national qualification structure has changed.
Is BA the Same as Associate Degree in Arts?
Not exactly.
The old BA and the current Associate Degree in Arts are separate program structures, even though students often use the terms interchangeably.
HEC’s policy replaced the former BA/BSc nomenclature with Associate Degree programs. Therefore, Pakword should not tell students that BA was simply renamed everywhere without any other change.
A safer way to understand it is:
Old system: Two-year BA
Current system: Associate Degree in Arts or another Associate Degree
Common student terminology: BA / ADA / AD Arts
Always check the exact title written by the university.
Why Does AIOU Still Use BA?
AIOU provides a useful example of current terminology.
Its website lists Associate Degree in Arts (BA), and the Autumn 2026 prospectus includes Associate Degree programs under BA/Open Course wording.
This does not mean HEC restored the old nationwide two-year BA system. It shows that BA remains a familiar label within particular institutional contexts.
Students should therefore rely on the formal qualification shown in the current prospectus rather than the short name alone.
How Long Is Associate Degree in Arts?
An Associate Degree is normally a two-year program.
HEC describes its Associate Degree framework as a two-year program mainly offered through affiliated colleges.
AIOU’s Associate Degree in Arts is also listed as two years and requires 66 credit hours.
Credit hours, subjects and examination methods can vary, so Pakword should not publish one universal subject list for every university.
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility depends on the university.
As one verified example, AIOU requires an HSSC Pass Certificate for its Associate Degree in Arts.
Other institutions may have their own merit, subject or admission requirements.
Students should therefore check the current prospectus of the university where they want to apply rather than assuming one institution’s requirements apply across Pakistan.
Are Associate Degree Exams Still Being Held?
Yes. Associate Degree examinations continue at institutions that offer or administer these programs.
Punjab University, for example, issued schedules during 2026 for Associate Degree in Arts, Science and Commerce examinations and also published date sheets for Associate Degree in Arts/Science examinations.
This is another reason Pakword’s BA class page should connect students with Associate Degree result and date-sheet content.
What Can You Study After an Associate Degree?
Further-study routes depend on the discipline and university.
HEC curriculum documents show that Associate Degree holders can, in some programs, enter later stages of four-year bachelor’s programs subject to university rules, matching subjects and possible deficiency courses.
Students should not assume automatic admission into the fifth semester of every BS degree.
Before applying, check:
- Whether your Associate Degree subject matches the BS program.
- Whether the university offers fifth-semester admission.
- The required CGPA or marks.
- Whether bridging or deficiency courses are required.
- The university’s current admission policy.
BA, ADA and BS: What Is the Difference?
The simplest way to understand the current system is this:
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| BA | Common or legacy term for Bachelor of Arts |
| Old two-year BA | Phased-out conventional qualification |
| ADA | Associate Degree in Arts |
| AD | General abbreviation for Associate Degree |
| BS | Normally a four-year bachelor’s degree |
Do not assume that every program containing the letters BA follows the old two-year structure. For example, some recognized international or transnational programs use titles such as BA (Hons), which are a different type of qualification.
What Should a Student Do in 2026?
If you have completed Intermediate and are searching for BA admission, first check the current program names offered by your chosen university.
Look specifically for:
Associate Degree in Arts, another Associate Degree relevant to your subject, or a four-year BS program.
Do not apply to a conventional two-year BA program simply because an advertisement uses familiar wording. Verify the qualification through the university’s current prospectus and, where necessary, HEC.
The word BA is still useful when searching for old results, degree records and some current university pages. But for fresh study decisions, the formal program title matters much more.
