Jerusalem: United States (US) Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has arrived in Israel on an emergency visit to help end a week of fighting between Israel and Hamas militants.
Clinton touched down late Tuesday and was headed to Jerusalem for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During a joint press briefing with Netanyahu, the US Secretary of State said that America’s commitment to Israeli’s defence was rock-solid.
She further said that the Iron Dome System, which US provided to Israel, has played an important role in restricting Hamas rockets to touch the Israeli land.
“We have regrets over the civilian killings of Israel and Palestine,” she said adding that rocket attacks should be stopped before the two sides reach any consensus over truce.
Mrs. Clinton further applauded the efforts of Egyptian president Mohammad Mursi in paving a way out for a cease-fire between the two sides adding that she would jointly work with Israel and Egypt in order to reach consensus over cease-fire.
On the occasion, Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel has right to protect its people from the offense of the militant groups in Gaza. (Thenewstribe)
