Pakistan will take part in Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will participate in the first Special Olympics Asia Pacific Games to be held at Newcastle, Australia from December 1 7.
National Sports Director Arshad Javaid told APP here Tuesday that the team will be participating in seven sports including athletics, aquatics, badminton, basketball, bocce, football and table tennis. Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities with 4.2 million athletes in 170 countries and millions more volunteers.
Special Olympics Pakistan has been part of it since 1989. He said almost 80 persons’ delegation with athletes coaches and officials will depart on November 27 from the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport, Karachi. Special Olympics Pakistan team has participated in different World events. Recently team SOP participated in the World Summer Games 2011 which was held in Athens Greece where it won 58 medals.
