According to Commissioner DG Khan, Tariq Mahmud, heavy rainfall caused canals and water channels to overflow.
On the other hand, sources said that a crack in DG Khan Canal caused water to spill over. Almost 50 percent of the city was under water, they said.
Mahmud said that that almost 5000 people were rescued and still the rescue operation was going on to save several others.
He further said that the relief camps were setup in schools and colleges to provide shelter to the affected people.
The sources said that the city was suffering from blackout and the lack of sewerage facilities created a pathetic situation for the people.
People were sitting on their roofs waiting for the water to settle down. The rescue 1122 teams were working in the field but they were unable to rescue all people as the number of affected people reached to thousands creating difficulties for the teams.
